FRISCO, Texas - Stephen F. Austin's Megan Cash has been named the Southland Conference soccer offensive player of the week, according to an announcement Tuesday by league officials. Cash, a senior forward, is the second Ladyjack to take the honor this season.
The Austin, Texas, product scored three goals and assisted on a fourth in SFA's 6-0 pasting of Sam Houston State Friday night. The trio of goals marked Cash's second career hat trick and just the 10th in program history, and the seven total points tie her for third on the Ladyjack single-game ledger. It was the third multi-goal performance of Cash's career.
The effort moved Cash into a tie for eighth place on the SFA career points list with 82 in three seasons. Her 13 career goals stand ninth in the program record book. Cash is tied for eighth in the Southland in both points (15) and goals (6) this season.
Cash is making her second appearance on the Southland player of the week list, both times after strong performances against Sam Houston. She took the award last season after scoring two goals in a 2-1 road win against the Bearkats.
Ladyjack redshirt freshman Breanne Vernon took the first Southland offensive honor of the year for scoring twice in SFA's 3-1 win at Louisiana-Lafayette in the season opener.
The Ladyjacks (7-7-0, 4-1-0 SLC) will continue Southland Conference play this weekend with road games against Texas State and UTSA. SFA will take on the Bobcats Friday at 7 p.m., then play UTSA Sunday in a 1 p.m. contest.
