MONROE, La. - The Ladyjack women's tennis team competed in the Warhawk Classic tennis tournament last weekend hosted by the ULM. Due to heavy rainfall on Friday the tournament was postponed and continued on Saturday with all matches played in eight-game, pro-set format.
In singles play, the Ladyjacks were successful in the majority of their first round matches but couldn't break through into the final rounds. Freshman Paola Muntuenga finished strong with a third place with victory over Kakvokina of UALR in Flight 3 singles. Senior Roxan Enica won her first round match in Flight 1 singles 8-5, but fell short to ULM's Clark, 8-5, in the second round. Freshman Meagan Ocanus also won her first round match in Flight 4 singles over LEE's Landry 8-1, then lost 8-1 to Nedorostova of Northwestern State.
Coming off of a second place finish at the SFA Fall Invitational, doubles duo Roxanna Enica and Alina Shazko won their first round match, 8-4, over LEE's Sunstrum/Gomez but were defeated in the second round by Delta State's Nett/Jamais, 8-4. The doubles team was scheduled to compete in a match for third place but was cancelled due to the weather.
The Ladyjacks are next scheduled to play in the ITA Regional Tournament in Waco, Texas beginning October 16.
