HAMMOND, La. - Less than 24 hours after dropping its fifth five-set match of the season the SFA volleyball team rebounded with a 3-1 (31-29, 25-21, 20-25, 25-20) win over Southeastern Louisiana on Saturday at the University Center.
Four players hit for at least 11 kills for the Ladyjacks (14-9, 3-2 Southland) as the team also rejected 12 Southeastern (6-10, 2-3 Southland) shots in holding the Lions to just .141 hitting for the afternoon.
Amber Williams-Roberts and Ashley Bailey each had a dozen kills to lead the way for SFA's offense while Mary Caitlin Bottles and Kelsey Owens were right there with 11 apiece as well. Williams-Roberts picked up her second double-double of the season with 19 digs, while Madison Hanlan kept pace with 19 of her own and Melissa Miksch also had 15.
However, the Lions stayed in the match with stingy defense of their own, outdigging the Ladyjacks 98-80 with Alex Greer leading the way with 26 by herself.
SFA took a 2-0 lead into the break despite only hitting .100 offensively, but kept Southeastern at bay by holding it to just .074 hitting in the first two frames. The Ladyjacks were forced to play from behind in the first set, never leading until the 28-27 mark and trailing by as much as five points late in the set. SFA had to fight off three set-point opportunities for Southeastern before forcing an attack error by Jessica Srajer.
Southeastern fought back in the third, negating five kills from Bailey with four kills apiece from Srajer and Allison Jones to force a fourth set. But that is as far as the Ladyjacks would be pushed as they held the Lions to just .163 swinging in the fourth, and SFA took advantage of a set-high four kills from Arielle Daron to close it out.
The Ladyjacks now get a night off before taking on Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Monday on the road. The Ladyjacks already have a non-conference, 3-0 win over the Islanders earlier this season at the Ladyjack Inviational.
