
SFA Records Four Titles at Arkansas

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - The Stephen F. Austin men's and women's track and field team continued the 2009 indoor season with a strong opening day of competition at the Razorback Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark., Friday evening. SFA's field athletes led the charge behind junior Frednisha Marshall. The Tyler, Texas, native improved upon her NCAA provisional mark from last week, by recording a school record throw of 64-8.00 to win the women's weight throw.
Junior Tabitha Riley added to the Ladyjacks individual title count when she won the women's pentathlon with a score of 3,520 points. Sophomore Megan Harlan wasn't too far off Riley's pace finishing fourth overall (3,345 points). Riley won two of the individual pentathlon events, while Harlan recorded a first-place and a second-place finish.
Freshman Jon Arthur picked up the first individual title of his career by winning the men's shot put. Arthur recorded a throw of 54-1.00 on his final toss to win the event. Arthur returned to the circle to record a second-place finish in the weight throw (55-0.25), finishing behind teammate Matt Langdon who won the event with a throw of 59-11.75. Redshirt freshman Marcus Mitchell also jumped into the top 10, finishing sixth overall in the event with a mark of 48-4.75.
Freshman Carrie Hahn was one of two Ladyjacks to finish in the top 10 in the women's high jump. Hahn finished third overall with a mark of 5-6.00. Sophomore Whitney Trimble cleared a height of 5-5.00 to finish eighth overall.
Other SFA athletes who recorded top-10 finishes Friday included junior Silent-Joy Egboba-Waye, and sophomore Amy Shackelford. Egboba-Waye recorded a jump of 18-9.25 to finish eighth in the long jump, while Shackelford clocked a time of 18:23.94 to finish seventh overall in the 5,000 meters. Sophomore Dennis Yeats was fifth in the men's 5,000-meter run. He clocked a time of 14:57.84. The 'Jacks placed two athletes in the heptathlon top 10 after the first day of competition. Junior Chris Jones is fourth with a score of 2,856 points, while sophomore Andrew Plentl is sixth (2,797 points).
SFA closes out competition at the Razorback Invitational Saturday with the final day of competition.
