NACOGDOCHES - Longtime Stephen F. Austin Head Athletic Trainer Sandy Miller has been promoted to Assistant Athletics Director of Sports Medicine SFA Director of Athletics Robert Hill announced Friday afternoon.
"Sandy's duties and responsibilities have far surpassed those of head athletic trainer," said Hill. "Under his leadership we have experienced great growth and expansion of the department's sports medicine services and it was time to change his title to cover all that he does."
Miller is entering his 27th year of service to the university. A member of two athletic training hall of fames, Miller serves on the board of directors of the National Athletic Trainer's Association (NATA). Miller was recognized as a NATA Most Distinguished Athletic Trainer in 1999, one of only 12 individuals to receive the award.
"There is no one more respected in his field as a skilled athletic trainer and educator than Sandy Miller," said Hill. "We are most fortunate to have him at SFA."
Miller's service to the field of athletic training goes beyond the university level. In 1990, Miller served on the athletic training staff of the 1990 Goodwill Games. He also worked with the U.S. track and field team at the 1995 World Championships in Sweden.
