FRISCO, Texas - After putting together one of the best season's in the Southland Conference, Kevin Crabtree was honored by the league on Tuesday morning by being named to the All-Southland Conference First Team for the first time by the league's coaches and sports information directors.
Along with Crabtree, senior third baseman Justin Roland was also given honorable mention after putting together a solid season in his final year in Nacogdoches.
Crabtree was in the top 10 of nine offensive categories in the SLC while leading SFA in nearly everything at the plate. He was named SLC Hitter of the Week three times, including back-to-back weeks in the latter stages of the year. He had a 17-game hit streak heading into the season's final weekend, and finished with a .362 batting average that ranks second all-time at SFA.
The senior from Sugar Land, Texas, was the offensive catalyst for the `Jacks during a run late in the season of 10 wins in 11 games that pulled SFA back into the race for the SLC Tournament as he had six home runs and 17 RBI in that span.
Overall for the year he mashed 11 home runs, had 18 doubles, four triples, 49 RBI and 19 stolen bases.
Roland took over at third base midway through the season and brought a sense of calm to the hot corner for the `Jacks, earning his first accolades of any kind with the postseason honor. He posted career highs in every category, including hitting his first two career home runs less than a week apart against Texas State and UT-Arlington.
The Rockwall, Texas, native ended the season fourth on the team with a .320 average, with 25 RBI and nine doubles.
The `Jacks wrapped up the year by winning nine of their last 12 SLC games, finishing just short of qualifying for the SLC Tournament.
