Langdon Wins Hammer Throw

HOUSTON, Texas - Sophomore thrower Matt Langdon recorded a throw of 53.26 meters to win the men's hammer throw at the J. Fred Duckett Twilight Meet in Houston, Texas, Thursday evening. Langdon's throw edged out teammate Martin Agoes (49.21m) who finished third overall.
It was a similar situation for the Ladyjacks in the high jump. SFA placed three athletes in the event and all three placed in the top five led by senior Audrey Azu, who cleared a height of 1.70 meters to finish tied for first overall. Freshmen Whitney Trimble and Ebbonye Johnson both cleared a height 1.60 meters to finish tied for fifth overall.
The Lumberjacks placed a pair in the top five of the long jump. Freshman Corvell Arterberry led the SFA charge with a jump of 7.21 meters to finish second overall. He edged out senior Sumbo Adeniran who finished third overall (7.17m).
In the men's high jump, freshman David Gordon recorded a top-five finish. He cleared a height of 2.00 meters in the event.
Freshman Arteria Sterns was strong in the sprints posting a top-five mark in the women's 100-meter dash. Sterns crossed the finish line with a mark of 12.13 seconds to place fifth overall. Classmate Ty Thomas was equally impressive in the men's 100 meters. Thomas crossed the finish line with a time of 10.85, missing a regional qualifying mark by only three-tenths of a second.
Thomas returned to the track in the 200 meters where he notched a fifth-place finish (22.05), but Thomas was edged out by teammate Stephon Rhea who finished fourth with his time of 21.78.
Senior Zach Ross took a break from the hurdles to compete for SFA in the 400-meter dash, and was just as effective. The Longview, Texas, native recorded a time of 48.09 to finish third overall in the event. Despite Ross' absence in the hurdles, the 'Jacks still found contributors in the event. Junior Marc Evans finished third overall with a time of 55.09.
Elliot Starcevich provided some punch for SFA in the middle distance events. Starcevich finished fifth overall in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 3:57.65.
The SFA track and field team returns to action Friday, May 2 through Saturday, May 3, at the Tom Tellez Invitational in Houston, Texas. It will serve as the final tune-up before the Southland Conference Outdoor Championships.
