NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Stephen F. Austin men's basketball coach Danny Kaspar announced Wednesday the addition of Jarrod McDaniel to the Lumberjack roster for the 2008-09 season.
McDaniel is a 5-7 point guard from Midwest City High School near Oklahoma City, Okla.
"Jarrod is an excellent point guard," Kaspar said. "He already knows how to win, having led his team to a state championship as a junior. Jarrod will be an all-conference player at SFA before he graduates."
McDaniel guided his team to the state tournament in each of the last two seasons, winning the title in 2007 and reaching the semifinals in 2008.
As a senior this year, McDaniel earned First-Team All-City honors and Second-Team All-State accolades. He scored 12.5 points per game with a healthy 7.8 assists per game average.
McDaniel joins two early signing period additions and a second spring signee, to give the Lumberjacks four players in their current signing class.
SFA is coming off its best season since becoming a Division I program in the 1986-87 season. The Lumberjacks went 26-6 this season and won a share of the program's first-ever Southland Conference championship. SFA earned a berth in the National Invitation Tournament, where the 'Jacks fell to eventual championship game participant UMass.
