School Record Falls in Fayetteville

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - The Stephen F. Austin men's and women's track and field team traveled to Fayetteville, Ark., for the John McConnell Invitational, and put forth one of the best performances of the season. The Ladyjacks set a school record in the 100-meter hurdles, and the men and women set a total of five NCAA regional marks.
Senior Katrina Roundtree posted one of the strongest performances of the afternoon. Roundtree clocked an NCAA regional qualifying time of 54.58 to win the women's 400 meters. Not to be outdone, sophomore Silent-Joye Egboba-Waye erased a 10-year old school record in the women's 100-meter hurdles. Egboba-Waye clocked a time of 13.79 in the event to finish fifth overall, and post the team's second NCAA regional qualifying mark.
The Lumberjacks recorded a couple of regional qualifiers in the 110-meter hurdles. Senior Zach Ross finished second in the event with a time of 13.96, just ahead of teammate Aaron Harlan (14.18). Ross returned to the track to record his second regional mark of the day. He recorded a time of 52.25 to finish third in the men's 400-meter hurdles.
Junior Keith Mahipala just missed an individual title in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Mahipala recorded a time of 9:08.62 to finish second overall. The Lumberjacks sent two athletes to the finals of the 100-meter dash. Senior Stephon Rhea finished third overall (10.76), while freshman Ty Thomas finished fifth with a time of 10.83.
The Lumberjacks' 4x100-meter relay team also recorded a top-five finish. The 'Jacks clocked a time of 41.08 to finish third overall.
The Ladyjacks placed four in the top 10 of the long jump, led by senior Audrey Azu who cleared a height of 5-7.00 to finish fourth overall. Classmate Meghan Denman and freshman Ebbonye Johnson each cleared a height of 5-5.00 to finish tied for sixth. Freshman Whitney Trimble finished 10th overall with a mark of 5-3.00. Sophomore Frednisha Marshall finished among the top five in the women's hammer throw. She posted a mark of 154-7 to finish fifth in the event.
Matt Langdon just missed the top five in the men's hammer throw. He recorded a mark of 166-2 to finish sixth overall, while classmate Martin Agoes was eighth overall (163-2). Langdon and Agoes each posted top-10 marks in the discus as well. Langdon finished seventh overall with mark of 149-4, while Agoes finished ninth with a mark of 144-6.
SFA returns to action Thursday, Aug. 24, when it travels to Houston, Texas, to compete in the Rice Twilight Invitational.
