SFA Hosts Sacred Heart In Four-Game Set Starting Thursday

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Lumberjack baseball team will look to rebound from consecutive losses when it retakes the field at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday to open a four-game series with Sacred Heart.
SFA fell to 4-5 on the season when it lost 10-6 to Dallas Baptist on Tuesday, despite out-hitting the Patriots 14-9 on the afternoon. 'Jacks pitching evened that out by doling out nine walks to DBU hitters, while Patriot pitching only allowed a pair of free passes to the 'Jacks' lineup.
Before Tuesday, SFA was coming off a solid showing at the QTI Baylor Classic over the weekend that included a win over Big 10 foe Illinois, and a one-run loss to nationally ranked Baylor.
The 'Jacks got a pair of home runs on Tuesday from junior Kevin Croft, his first multi-home run game of his career, and currently lead the SLC with 11 home runs as a team. Matt Whatley is also ranked highly in several offensive categories, including leading the SLC with seven doubles through only nine games. He is currently slugging .906.
The Pioneers are on a season-opening southern swing that hasn't gone the way that they had hoped or anticipated as they have dropped all five of their games so far this season - four at UT-San Antonio to open the year and a heartbreaking 9-8 decision at Houston on Wednesday in which they held a 6-0 lead after their half of the first inning.
It was the closest game they had played in so far as the Roadrunners smacked them around in their four-game set, winning by a combined margin of 48-4.
Sacred Heart is projected to throw a left-hander, Jared Balbach, on Thursday and follow that with a trio of righties for the weekend three games.

SFA hits the road next week on Tuesday for one game with Houston before coming back home to open conference play with Southeastern Louisiana on March 14.
