SFA Shows Strength on Track

HOUSTON, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin men's and women's track and field team wrapped up a strong weekend in Houston at the Rice Bayou Classic. Senior Zach Ross led the charge by recording individual titles in the 110-meter hurdles (14.37) and the 400 hurdles (53.12).
But Ross wasn't the only member of the SFA purple and white to record a strong outing on the track Saturday afternoon. Senior Katrina Roundtree posted a fourth-place finish in the women's 400-meter dash (55.02). The SFA relay teams were also very strong, as the 'Jacks posted a second-place finish in the 4x400-meter relay (3:16.18), and a third-place finish in the 4x100-meter relay (40.95).
The Ladyjacks posted two among the top 10 in the women's 100-meter hurdles. Sophomore Silent-Joy Egboba-Waye recorded an eight-place finish in the event when she crossed the time line with a time of 14.64. Her time just beat out teammate Tabitha Riley (14.80) who finished ninth overall.
The 'Jacks also placed two athletes in the finals of the 110-meter hurdles. Along with Ross, who brought home the individual title, sophomore Aaron Harlan finished second overall with a 14.49.
Freshman Sherman Rosborough recorded top-10 finishes in the 100 meters and the 200 meters. Rosborough finished 10th in the 100 with a time of 11.12, and recorded a ninth-place finish in the 200 with a time of 22.33.
Less than 24 hours after posting an individual runner-up finish in the hammer throw, sophomore Frednisha Marshall also posted a runner-up finish in the women's shot put. Marshall recorded a throw of 45-2.50 in the event.
Senior co-captain Sumbo Adeniran also recorded a runner-up mark with his performance in the long jump. Adeniran finished the day with a leap of 22-7.75.
The Ladyjacks bundled points in a couple different events placing three in the top 10 of the pole vault, and two in the high jump. Senior Kristina Windham finished fifth (11-5.75) in the pole vault, followed by juniors Kelsea David (10-6.00) and Ashley Dickeson (10-6.00) who finished ninth and 10th, respectively.
Seniors Audrey Azu and Leah Matthews led the SFA attack in the high jump. Azu cleared a height of 5-7.00 to finish third overall, while Matthews cleared a height of 5-5.00 to record a two-way tie for seventh.
Following suit, the Lumberjacks also placed two among the leaders of the men's high jump. Freshman Jacques Neyrey cleared a height of 6-6.75 to finish fifth overall, while classmate Corvell Arterberry was sixth (6-2.75).
Other SFA athletes who recorded strong performances were Egboba-Waye in the long jump, and Matt Langdon in the discus. Egboba-Waye was sixth in the long jump with a mark of 19-2.50, while Langdon finished fifth with a throw of 153-00.
SFA returns to action Wednesday, April 2 when they travel to Austin, Texas to compete in the Texas Relays. The nationally prominent meet will end Saturday, April 5.
