ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - The SFA women's tennis team found its groove in the final two matches of the day on Saturday, claiming a pair of wins over Henderson State and Ouachita Baptist to wrap up a weekend in Arkansas.
The Ladyjacks (4-5) dropped a close match to open the weekend against Delta State, falling 4-3 in a down-to-the-wire contest. Delta State took the doubles point, but only by a slim margin after the team of Mary Harrison and Christelle Kaempfer disposed of Potapova and Bouchard 8-0 in No. 3 doubles.
Delta State would then claim each of the points in Nos. 1-3 singles before Gabriela Gadeva, Tatiana Smolnikova and Andreea Enica were finally able to break through with wins in their matches.
SFA would start to figure things out as the day went on, however, and would only lose a single set in the next two matches combined. Against Henderson State, SFA took each of the doubles contests that included Roxana Enica and Sanjana Kapur claiming an 8-5 win in No. 1 doubles.
Enica retired Melissa West in straight sets in No. 1 singles with Smolnikova being the most dominant of the match, knocking off Harness of the Reddies 6-0, 6-0.
The Ladyjacks put on another rip-and-go performance in the evening finale, shredding the Ouachita Baptist Tigers 5-0 en route to the win.
Each doubles match was taken in demonstrative fashion, and singles play was no different. Roxana Enica picked up her fifth No. 1 singles win of the season, taking care of the Tigers' top player, Mariana Divardin, 6-2, 6-4. Without matches being played in the No. 2 and No. 3 slots, the back end of the Ladyjacks lineup card made their mark with a trio of left-hand column tallies.
Freshman Andreea Enica wrapped up her weekend with a perfect 3-0 record after disposing of Leasha May 6-1, 6-1, with Christelle Kaempfer and Smolnikova taking care of business in their matches as well.
SFA will next be in action at home on Saturday against Louisiana-Monroe at 10:00 a.m.
