NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Stephen F. Austin head volleyball coach Debbie Humphreys announced Monday the signing of Arlington (TX) Martin student-athlete Madison Hanlan to a National Letter of Intent to continue her playing career in a Ladyjack uniform.
"We are extremely excited to have Madison join the Ladyjack Volleyball family," head coach Debbie Humphreys said. "In addition to being solid as a passer and defensive player, she also possesses the intangibles that are important to the success of the team. She is very vocal and is a fierce competitor, a feisty player who will be a great leader from the libero position."
Hanlan was a senior libero this season at Martin High School, leading the Warriors to the District 4-5A championship in 2008 and the third round of the Class 5A playoffs. She lettered all four seasons at MHS, earning Martin's Outstanding Freshman Award in 2005 and defensive player of the year awards in 2006 and 2007. An all-district selection in 2006, she backed that up with all-district honors in multiple sports in 2007 as she also stood out on the golf course.
She was named one of PrepVolleyball.com's top 250 U.S. volleyball recruits of 2009 and was an honorable mention selection to Lone Star Volleyball's all-Texas team in 2008. Hanlan was also a member of the Texas Advantage Volleyball club team, which placed second in the 2007 open national championships and third in the 2008 open national championships.
Hanlan should also make a smooth transition in the classroom on the collegiate level as she currently ranks 54th out of 740 scheduled graduates of the 2009 MHS senior class with a 12.2 GPA on a 12-point scale. She is interested in pursuing a degree in biology of chemistry in preparation for either medical or dental school following her undergraduate work.
