NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Last week we had our penultimate pair of regular-season conference matches, starting with our rivals, the Bearkats of Sam Houston. The band came out to support us, which is always exciting for a former band nerd, and they caused quite a ruckus, being warned by even the refs for their playing in between points.
Game one started off slow, and I was feeling a little déjà vu from the UTSA match, but we picked up the intensity in game two and did not let up until the final whistle. Even though we had just beaten them, the coaches and players were quite friendly and genial after the match, asking how my ankle was doing and such. It is good to know that even our rival Sam Houston can be cordial after a match.
In honor of Homecoming, many of us went to the bonfire on Friday night and watched fireworks and listened to the 80s cover band that performed, and on Saturday, the Havards hosted a little tailgate shindig. The food was delicious as usual, and I have never seen bigger potatoes.
In accordance with the current trend, we started off slow and lost game one. Things began looking up, however, as we won games two and three rather handily, and game four was shaping up pretty good. The tide would soon turn again and we would lose game four and game five. So we lost. Hats off to them, they played well, even if their fans were not decorous in their victory. We just need to bounce back and play well in our last pair of games in the West against Texas State on Thursday and UT Arlington on Saturday.
Word of the Week: Decorous - adj. in keeping with good taste and propriety; polite and restrained. Ex. (see above)
