NACOGDOCHES - Stephen F. Austin State University President Dr. Baker Pattillo announced his decision not to proceed with construction of Bo Pilgrim Park at SFA at this time, and he said that the university will offer to return donations to those who contributed to the project. SFA will now turn its attention to continued improvements at Jaycees Field.
"We will continue to work with the city to improve the facility that we have so we can recruit players to win championships," said SFA Director of Athletics Robert Hill. "We will now change our focus from fundraising to improving our current venue."
Following an 11-year hiatus, SFA brought back baseball prior to the 2006 season. The 'Jacks have played all their home games at Jaycees Field, the original home of the Lumberjacks, since their return. SFA has recorded 46-69 (.400) overall mark, and a 24-36 (.400) conference record. Last season SFA advanced to the SLC Championship tournament for the first time in school history.
SFA opens up the 2008 season Saturday, Feb. 22, in Edinburg, Texas, at the UTPA tournament. SFA will face Texas State in a non-conference match-up.
