FRISCO, Texas - Sophomore thrower Frednisha Marshall was named Southland Conference Athlete of the Week announced league officials Wednesday afternoon. It marks the first time in Marshall's career, and the second time this season that an SFA athlete has received the honor.
Marshall got the indoor track and field season out to a great start last weekend at the Leonard Hilton Invitational in Houston, Texas. The Tyler native set a personal, school and SLC record Friday with a throw of 60-6.50 in the weight throw. Marshall's throw was good enough to win the event.
Marshall also recorded a top-five finish in the women's shot put. She recorded a toss of 44-10.25 to place fourth overall in the event.
The SFA men's and women's track and field team returns to action Friday when they travel to Fayetteville, Ark, to compete in the Razorback Invitational. The meet will begin Friday and run through Saturday.
