NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack soccer team will play its first home contest following a four-game road swing when it hosts Louisiana Tech Friday at 7 p.m. SFA will then travel to Austin, Texas, Sunday for the program's first game against Texas. This week's opponents are on opposite ends of the competitive spectrum so far this season. Louisiana Tech enters the week at 0-6-0, having been outscored by an average of 2.67 goals per game. The Longhorns, meanwhile, bring a 4-1-0 record to the week, with some big early season wins, including a 2-1 victory over then-No. 2 UCLA.
Last Week: SFA took home the championship in the Tulsa-Oral Roberts Invitational, posting a 1-0-1 record in the tournament. The Ladyjacks played Tulsa to a 1-1 tie behind junior forward Amanda Alders' goal on Friday, then exploded for a 5-1 win over Oral Roberts on Sunday. Alders had two goals and an assist in that contest and wrapped up the weekend by earning Offensive MVP honors for the tournament. Defender Jenna Turner also notched a goal on Sunday and was named the tournament's Defensive MVP. Midfielder Amanda Lackey and forward Brittney Barker also earned All-Tournament accolades.
SFA vs. the Lady Techsters: Friday's game will mark the third all-time meeting between SFA and Louisiana Tech. The two teams have split in their two prior meetings with each winning on its home field. The Lady Techsters defeated SFA, 2-1, in Ruston, La., last season.
SFA vs. the Longhorns: The Ladyjacks will take on Texas for the first time in program history when the two teams square off on Sunday. The Longhorns were ranked seventh in the country in the last National Soccer Coaches Association of America poll.
The Coaches: Jaime Frias is in his third year as head coach of the Ladyjack soccer team. He carries a career record of 25-14-2 (.634), including a 12-2-1 (.833) mark against Southland Conference foes. Louisiana Tech is led by first-year head coach Kevin Sherry (0-6-0). Texas coach Chris Petrucelli is 109-57-9 in his ninth season with the Longhorns.
Next Week: SFA will wrap up the month of September and its non-conference schedule when the Ladyjacks host Grambling State on Sunday. The game is set for a 2 p.m. start from the SFA Soccer Complex. The Ladyjacks will open Southland Conference play on Oct. 5, when they host Sam Houston State.
