FRISCO, Texas - Stephen F. Austin soccer players Amanda Alders and Jenna Turner were named to the Southland Conference Player of the Week list, the league announced Tuesday. Alders earned Offensive Player of the Week honors, while Turner was named the Defensive Player of the Week.
Tuesday's selection marks the seventh career SLC Player of the Week award for Alders, a junior forward. She earned the honor with her standout performance at the Tulsa-Oral Roberts Invitational over the weekend. Alders scored three goals and assisted on another for a total of seven points. It was the fourth time in her career that the Colleyville, Texas, native has scored three or more goals in a single weekend. Her two goals in Sunday's 5-1 win over Oral Roberts gave her six multi-goal games for her career.
Turner is a first-time honoree on the player of the week list. The redshirt sophomore earned this week's selection by helping guide the Ladyjacks to a 1-0-1 record at the TU-ORU Invitational. SFA allowed just one goal in each of its two contests over the weekend. Turner also scored a goal in the Ladyjacks' win over Oral Roberts.
Tuesday's conference awards were the second honors since Sunday for both Alders and Turner. After leading SFA to the tournament championship in Tulsa, the two players were named the TU-ORU Invitational Offensive and Defensive MVPs. In all, four Ladyjacks were named to the all-tournament team, the most selections of any of the four participants.
SFA (2-2-1) will host Louisiana Tech Friday at 7 p.m. The Ladyjacks will then travel to Austin, Texas, to take on the University of Texas on Sunday in a 7 p.m. contest.
