Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack senior distance runner Katrina Nicholas was named ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District announced CoSIDA officials Thursday afternoon. Nicholas was a standout in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and on the SFA cross country team this past season.
Athletes must be standouts on the track and in the classroom to be nominated for the regional honor. Every athlete nominated for academic all-district must maintain a 3.2 cumulative grade-point average, and be a starter or significant reserve for their respective team.
Nicholas is a three-time All-Southland Conference selection, who was a member of the 2004 distance medley relay team that set a school record at the conference indoor championships. Nicholas wrapped up the 2007 track and field season by finish fourth in the steeplechase.
Nicholas was also recognized by SFA early this year for her accomplishments in the classroom. She received the 2007 Kathy McGough Award and the Murray Shaw Academic Award at the university's Champions Dinner last month.
