Miller, Leonhardt Chosen in MLB Draft

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Stephen F. Austin pitchers David Miller and Jake Leonhardt were both drafted by the Houston Astros in the late rounds of the Major League Baseball amateur draft over the weekend. Miller was selected in the 32nd round, and Leonhardt was taken in the 37th round, bringing the total number of Lumberjacks selected in this year's draft to four.
Sluggers Steven Hill and Jared Pitts were selected in the 13th and 28th rounds, respectively. The four players drafted gives SFA the second-most draftees in the Southland Conference this season. Only Lamar's five draft choices outnumbered the Lumberjacks taken in this year's draft.
Miller, a 6-10 junior from Fort Worth, Texas, appeared in 18 games -- starting three -- this season and finished the year with a 1-2 record. He posted a 7.88 ERA through 24.0 innings pitched. A power pitcher, Miller recorded 28 strikeouts for an average of 10.5 strikeouts per nine innings pitched, the second-best average on the team.
Leonhardt finished his senior campaign with a 2-1 mark after appearing in 14 games with five starts. Through 31.1 innings pitched, the Cypress, Texas, native posted a 7.76 ERA with 19 strikeouts.
The Lumberjacks put together a 31-28 overall record with a 17-13 Southland Conference mark in their second season back, following the program's 11-year layoff. SFA finished fourth in the SLC West and reached the Southland Conference Tournament.
