SFA Women Third, Men Fourth at SLC Meet

NACOGDOCHES - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack track and field team scored 123 points to finish third overall at the SLC Outdoor Track and Field Championships Sunday evening. The Lumberjacks scored 102 points to finish fourth overall. Texas State took the women's team title, while Texas-Arlington won the men's title. SFA closed out the meet recording five all-conference performances and four NCAA regional marks on the final day.
Juniors Kristina Windham and Laura Mikeska vaulted SFA to a quick start in the women's pole vault earning all-conference honors. Windham cleared an NCAA regional height with her mark of 12-5.50. The NCAA regional mark was good enough to earn SLC individual runner-up honors. Mikeska finished just behind Windham clearing a height of 11-11.75.
The `Jacks posted a similar showing in the men's pole vault recording two NCAA regional qualifying marks. Chayden Feist cleared a height of 16-6.75 to finish fifth overall. Feist was one of six athletes to clear 16-6.75 in the pole vault, including SFA's Geoffrey Carey. Due to the tie-break system, Carey finished eighth overall.
Senior Darwin Johnson earned all-conference honors, and recorded an NCAA regional mark in the men's discus throw. Johnson finished second overall with a throw of 177-2. Senior Kenneth McKinley finished seventh overall with a throw of 162-2, edging out freshman Matt Langdon who was eighth (161-4).
Senior LaKoa McKeever recorded an All-SLC finish in the women's 1,500 meters. McKeever finished third overall with a time of 4:46.94. In the men's 1,500 meters classmate Chance Edwards just missed All-SLC honors with his fourth-place finish. Edwards crossed the line with a time of 3:56.12.
Junior Katrina Roundtree added an all-conference finish for SFA in the 400-meter dash. Roundtree jumped out to a quick start and was able to ride that to a third-place finish crossing the line with a time of 56.46.
Senior Ashley Morton and sophomore Amie Morton combined for another strong performance in the distance events. Morton recorded her second all-conference honor by finishing third overall with a time of 17:28.68. Monteau just missed all-conference honors with her fourth-place finish (17:32.99) in the event.
In the men's 5,000 meters, senior Marc Farris scored two points by finishing seventh overall. He crossed the finish line with a time of 14:58.49.
Senior Leah Matthews continued a busy weekend for the SFA women Sunday. Matthews finished fifth in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.12. Senior Zach Ross also recorded a fifth-place finish in the 110 hurdles. Ross crossed the line with a time of 14.44. Ross came right back to post a fifth-place finish in the 400-hurdles with a time of 52.57. Teammate Marc Evans was eighth with a time of 56.50.
The SFA relays also put up points on the scoreboard Sunday. Junior Johnny Thacker ran a blazing anchor leg in the men's 4 x 100 to lead the `Jacks to a fifth-place finish (41.17) just missing an NCAA regional mark. The Ladyjacks 4 x 100-meter relay team finished seventh overall with a time of 46.88. Thacker also posted a strong performance in the 200-meter dash. He crossed the line fourth overall with a time of 21.35. The Ladyjacks 4 x 400-meter relay team finished fifth overall with a time of 3:50.88. The SFA men also finished fifth in the 4 x 400-meter relay with a time of 3:14.33.
Newcomer Nikki Carr posted a strong showing in the women's triple jump. She finished sixth overall recording a mark of 37-5.75. Freshman Kaitlyn Andrews scored a point in the women's discus with her throw of 142-8 to finish eighth overall.
Robert Smith recorded a sixth-place finish for SFA in the men's 800-meter run. Smith finished strong in the event with a time of 1:53.90.
