Marshall Sets School Record in Hammer Throw

NORMAN, Okla. - The Stephen F. Austin men's and women's track and field teams piled up the frequent-flyer miles Saturday splitting athletes between three events across the country. SFA had athletes competing in the Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, Calif., the John Jacobs Invitational in Norman, Okla., and the Northwestern State Invitational in Natchitoches.
Freshman thrower Frednisha Marshall recorded SFA's first big mark of the day posting a school-record throw of 170-1 in the women's hammer. Junior Geoffrey Carey notched the 'Jacks' first big performance of the afternoon when he recorded an NCAA regional mark of 16-6.75 to finish second in the pole vault.
SFA posted several top five finishes at the Northwestern State Invitational Saturday. Junior Justin Reyes won the men's high jump with a mark of 6-6. The Ladyjacks' 4 x 400-meter relay team also won a title, by crossing the finish line first with a time of 4:00.67. Senior Leah Matthews won the women's high jump with her mark of 5-1.75.
Other top five performances by the Lumberjacks came from Chris Jones in the long jump. Jones recorded a mark of 19-9.5 to finish third overall. Freshman Josh Cruse posted a mark of 46-1.25 to finish fourth in the triple jump. Junior Stephon Rhea finished third in the men's 200 meters with his time of 21.72. Freshman Chris Moody finished fifth in the men's 400 with his time of 50.10. Austin Hardy recorded a time of 2:04.42 to finish fifth in the 800 meters. Senior Zach Ross was the runner-up in the 110-meter hurdles (14.54) and the 400-hurdles (55.24).
The Ladyjacks also had several athletes who recorded top-five performances Saturday. Freshman Silent-Joy Egboba-Waye finished second in the long jump with a mark of 18-2.50, while Alecia Green was fourth (17-7). Freshman Camelia Sams was fourth in the triple jump with her mark of 35-6.75. After winning the high jump, Matthews returned to the track where she finished third in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.84. Matthews finished just ahead of teammates Egboba-Waye (14.88) and Tabitha Riley (15.05) who were fourth and fifth, respectively. Riley also posted a fourth-place finish in the women's 400-meter hurdles.
Three Ladyjacks competed in events late Friday evening. Sophomore Amie Morton and junior Kimbri Lettkeman competed in the women's 5,000 meters at the John Jacobs Distance Carnival, while senior Ashley Monteau competed in the 5,000-meter run at the Mt. SAC Relays. Morton finished sixth overall with a time of 17:24.02. Monteau finished 18th overall when she crossed the finish line with a time of 17:10.72. It was Monteau's first race of the season and she posted the league's top time.
SFA will travel to Fort Worth, Texas, Saturday, April 21 to compete in the TCU Invitational.
