NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Regular-Season Finale: The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack basketball team will wrap up its regular-season schedule Saturday with a home game against Texas-San Antonio. The game against the Roadrunners is set to start at 6 p.m. from the William R. Johnson Coliseum. Having already assured themselves of a berth in the O'Reilly Auto Parts Southland Conference Tournament, the Lumberjacks will try to build some momentum and improve their tournament seeding with a win against UTSA. The home fans will also have a chance to say "Goodbye" to the four seniors -- Will Johnson, Chaz Dykes, Antuane Miller and Keith Hardaway -- on this year's squad with a brief ceremony before the game.
Last Game: Sophomore forward Josh Alexander scored 24 of his game-high 29 points in the second half, but it wasn't enough to push SFA past a tough Texas A&M-Corpus Christi squad on Wednesday. The Islanders shot 51 percent for the game and got 41 chances at the free throw line in their 69-65 win. The Lumberjacks couldn't get much going for them, outside of Alexander's scoring explosion. Senior center Antuane Miller scored 10 points, but no other SFA player scored more than five. The win gave A&M-Corpus a season sweep against the Lumberjacks in the Islanders' first season in the Southland Conference.
vs. Texas-San Antonio: SFA is 9-21 all-time against the Roadrunners, including a 4-8 mark under current head coach Danny Kaspar. The Roadrunners have won five in a row in the series, dating back to their 74-70 victory in the Southland Conference Tournament championship game in 2004. Under Kaspar, the Lumberjacks are 3-2 at home against UTSA.
The Roadrunners: Texas-San Antonio enters Saturday's game with a 6-22 overall record and a 2-13 Southland Conference mark. The Roadrunners are last in the SLC West and have already been eliminated from SLC Tournament consideration. UTSA has lost seven straight games and nine of its last 10, the only win in that stretch being the Roadrunners' 48-45 win over SFA on Feb. 3.
The Coaches: Danny Kaspar is in his seventh season as the head basketball coach at SFA. Kaspar is 108-88 (.551) in his time with the Lumberjacks. He is 327-140 (.700) in 15 seasons as a collegiate head coach. The Roadrunners are coached by Brooks Thompson. Thompson is 6-22 (.214) in his first season as head coach.
Up Next: The Lumberjacks will begin play in the O'Reilly Auto Parts Southland Conference Tournament, with a bid to the NCAA Championships on the line. First-round tournament action is set to get under way Thursday, March 8, at the Campbell Center in Houston.
