
SFA Closes Out Houston Indoor Classic

HOUSTON, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin men and women's track and field team took advantage of its final tune-up before the Southland Conference Indoor Championships. Both the SFA men and women recorded numerous top five finishes Saturday afternoon on the final day of the Houston Indoor Classic.
Gerardo Moreno finished third overall in the men's 5,000 meters. He crossed the line with a time of 15:59.43. Junior Justin Reyes recorded his second consecutive strong outing finishing fourth in the men's high jump. Reyes cleared a height of 6-9.50. Geoffrey Carey also posted a top-five finish in the men's pole vault. Carey cleared a height of 16-6.75 to finish fourth overall.
The 'Jacks also recorded strong outings in the jumps. Sumbo Adeniran finished sixth in the long jump with a mark of 22-8.50. Freshman Josh Cruse finished fourth overall, but was the third-best collegiate finisher, in the triple jump. He recorded a mark of 47-8.00.
The Ladyjacks were led by strong performances in the high jump. Junior Meghan Denman finished second in the event with a mark of 5-7.75. Classmate Audrey Azu cleared the same height as Denman, but finished fourth overall due to the tiebreak. Freshman Kaitlyn Andrews finished third in the shot put, recording a throw of 47-5.75. Andrews just beat out teammate Markeisha Edwards who recorded a throw of 45-11.75.
After winning the 200 meters Friday, junior Katrina Roundtree returned to the track Saturday in the 400 meters. Roundtree recorded a time of 57.84 to finish fifth in the event. Sophomore Amie Morton led the Ladyjack distance squad. She recorded a fourth-place finish in the 3,000 meters (9:59.10). Junior Kimbri Lettkeman recorded a sixth-place finish in the women's 5,000 meters. Lettkeman crossed the line with a time of 19:16.43.
SFA will take a week off before they return to Houston Friday, Feb. 16, to open the SLC Indoor Championships. The championships will last through Saturday.
