NACOGDOCHES, Texas - When the Stephen F. Austin men's basketball team takes the floor this season, Lumberjack fans might notice a few new faces in uniform -- nine, to be exact. The nine newcomers for 2007-08 tie two previous years for the most SFA rookies to start a season under eighth-year head coach Danny Kaspar. The class includes five prep recruits and four collegiate transfers. Following is the eighth in a series of question-and-answer sessions that will help SFA fans get to know the newest Lumberjacks. Today's featured 'Jack is freshman Preston Davis.
Davis is a 6-2, 170-pound point guard from Arlington, Texas. He lettered three times and was a two-year starter at Summit High. Davis earned consideration for the McDonald's All-American team as a senior, when he was named to the all-region team. Davis was a first-team all-district selection each of his last two years and earned his squad's "Mr. Offense" tag both as a junior and senior. For his high school career, Davis averaged 12 points and four assists.
Where Eric Bell, SFA's anticipated starter at point guard, is more of a distributor and defensive stopper, Davis gives the Lumberjacks a reliable back-up with the added dimension of a scorer. "Preston is an athletic point guard who can score and penetrate," Kaspar said. "I see him helping us a great deal over the next four years."
Davis will major in marketing at Stephen F. Austin.
