
Lumberjacks Set To Play Northern Illinois

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - On the Road Again: The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack basketball team will hit the road this weekend, looking for its first victory away from the William R. Johnson Coliseum. SFA travels to DeKalb, Ill., Saturday to take on Northern Illinois in a 7 p.m. game. The Lumberjacks bring a 3-1 record to the contest, while the Huskies enter the game with an 0-5 mark.
Last Game: SFA recovered from its first loss of the season by taking a 71-68 victory against Louisiana-Monroe Wednesday. For the second time this season, four different Lumberjacks reached doube figures in scoring, led by 18 points from juniors Matt Kingsley and Josh Alexander. Junior Nick Shaw scored 17 points and hauled in 16 rebounds to post the first double-double of his SFA career and the second double-double of the season for the Lumberjacks. Sophomore Eric Bell poured in a career-high 12 points and just missed a double-double with nine assists. A game after committing 23 turnovers in its loss at Texas Tech, SFA gave up possession only seven times against the Warhawks.
vs. Northern Illinois: Saturday's game against the Huskies marks the second meeting between the two teams in a series that began last season. SFA defeated Northern Illinois, 86-78, in Nacogdoches last year.
The Huskies: Northern Illinois is winless this season at 0-5. The Huskies have yet to play a home game, though. NIU is coming off a 75-66 loss at Indiana State on Tuesday. The Huskies have been outscored by an average of 17 points per contest.
The Coaches: SFA is under the direction of head coach Danny Kaspar. Kaspar is in his eighth season at the helm for the Lumberjacks. He holds a record of 111-91 (.550) at SFA and has a 330-143 (.698) overall record in 16-plus seasons as a collegiate head coach. Northern Illinois is coached by Ricardo Patton. Patton is in his first season with the Huskies but has a 12-year coaching record of 184-165 (.527).
Up Next: The Lumberjacks wrap up a home-and-home season series with a trip to Jackson State on Dec. 1. The game is set for a 4 p.m. start. SFA will follow that game with another against a Southwestern Athletic Conference foe, when the Lumberjacks host Southern on Dec. 4 in a 7 p.m. game.
