LAKE CHARLES, La. - McNeese State's Kyra McDonough broke up Stephen F. Austin's two-game shutout streak with her goal in the 58th minute, and McNeese State held on to wreck the Ladyjacks' six-game unbeaten streak with a 1-0 setback Friday afternoon. The blank slate marks just the fourth time SFA has been shut out this season and is the first shutout loss since a Sept. 23 game at then-No. 4 Texas.
With the defeat -- the Ladyjacks' first in conference play -- SFA falls into a tie with the Cowgirls for first place in the Southland Conference at 4-1-1. The Ladyjacks are now 8-4-2 on the season.
McDonough's goal came on an indirect kick from Cynthia Jones and was one of five shots on goal for the Cowgirls (8-4-4). SFA managed only eight shots total with just two on goal -- one each by sophomores Brenna Crockett and Erika Palmacci.
Sophomore goalkeeper Crystin Pactor recorded four saves for the game.
The Ladyjacks will try to bounce back Sunday when they take on Lamar. The game is set for an 11 a.m. start.
