Two Ladyjacks Honored By SLC

FRISCO, Texas - For the second time this season, the Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack soccer team has taken two of three honors in Southland Conference Player of the Week balloting. Junior Jessica Cotton earned Defensive Player of the Week for the second straight week, and sophomore goalkeeper Crystin Pactor received her first career Goalkeeper of the Week award, according to notes released by conference officials Wednesday afternoon.
The recognition comes on the heels of one of the best defensive weekends in the history of Ladyjack soccer. SFA recorded consecutive shutout wins for the first time since 2005, topping Central Arkansas, 4-0, Friday, then knocking off Northwestern State, 3-0, Sunday. The Ladyjacks held the two opponents to a combined total of eight shots with just two on goal. In Sunday's game, the defense was even better, as SFA allowed just three shots, none of which were on goal.
Cotton was one of many deserving players in the Ladyjack backfield who helped boost SFA to the top of the Southland Conference standings with the shutout wins. Pactor started both games and played 160 minutes in net with two saves as she recorded the third and fourth shutouts of her career.
The Ladyjacks (8-3-2, 4-0-1) will be back in action Friday, when they travel to Lake Charles, La., to take on McNeese State in a 4 p.m. game. SFA will then play at Lamar Sunday in an 11 a.m. contest.
