NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack soccer team will hit the road for a pair of Southland Conference contests this weekend. SFA plays at Texas-San Antonio Friday at 7 p.m. and will take on Texas State Sunday in a 1 p.m. contest. SFA (5-3-1) enters the second week of conference play leading the SLC standings with a 1-0-0 record. UTSA is 3-7-1 on the year and tied for sixth at 1-1-0 in conference play. Texas State is currently part of a four-team tie for second place and brings a 2-8-1 season mark and a 1-0-1 SLC record to the week.
Last Week: SFA scored two second-half goals in a rain storm Friday to knock off Sam Houston State, 2-1, in the Southland Conference opener for both teams. Sophomore Brenna Crockett scored the first goal in the 50th minute, and classmate Erika Palmacci added what proved to be the game-winner in the 64th minute. Palmacci leads the Ladyjacks with five goals this season and is tied for the SLC lead in game-winning goals with three.
SFA vs. the Roadrunners: The Ladyjacks are 0-1-0 against Texas-San Antonio, having dropped the first meeting last year during the Roadrunners' inaugural soccer campaign. That loss came in Nacogdoches and is the only home conference defeat for the Ladyjacks since moving to the SFA Soccer Complex for the 2003 season.
SFA vs. the Bobcats: The Ladyjacks are 5-8-2 (.400) all-time against Texas State. SFA has won each of the last two meetings -- both of which were played at home -- and four of the last six games. The Ladyjacks have scored two goals or more in each of the last four meetings, including a 4-3 loss in 2004. SFA won last year's game, 4-2.
The Coaches: Jaime Frias is in his third year as head coach of the Ladyjack soccer team. He carries a career record of 28-15-2 (.644), including a 13-2-1 (.844) mark against Southland Conference foes. Steve Ballard is in his second season as head coach at Texas-San Antonio. He has an 11-16-3 record to this point. Kat Conner holds an 84-83-10 record through nine seasons as head coach at Texas State.
Next Week: SFA will return home to host Central Arkansas Friday in a 7 p.m. contest. The Ladyjacks will then entertain Northwestern State on Sunday at 2 p.m.
