NORMAN, Okla. - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack soccer team posted its first shutout win of the season Friday, nipping Oral Roberts, 1-0. The win improved SFA to 3-1-0 on the year and marked the first Ladyjack victory over Oral Roberts in five meetings, all-time.
Freshman Crystin Pactor made her debut in net for the Ladyjacks and turned in a sparkling performance. She faced down 11 Golden Eagle shots and recorded eight saves to post the first shutout victory of her career. Pactor recorded five saves in the first half, when Oral Roberts mustered six shots. The Ladyjack defense tightened up even more after halftime, allowing just three shots on goal in the second period, and Pactor rebuked all three.
"Pactor kept us in the game," SFA head coach Jaime Frias said. "She came up with three or four big-time saves. That really turned the momentum for our team and gave us some confidence."
Sophomore Amanda Alders scored the lone goal for SFA, near the midway point of the second half. Senior Jill Robison picked up the assist on Alders' goal. The score was the first of the season for Alders, who led the Ladyjacks in points and goals a year ago.
SFA took 20 shots for the game, nine of which were on goal, and earned seven corner kick opportunities to Oral Roberts' five. The Ladyjacks put themselves in position to add to their lead several times, but were unable to convert.
"We're playing really well," Frias said. "When we start finishing our opportunities on goal, this team is going to be very hard to beat."
The Ladyjacks will stay in Norman until Sunday, when they take on Oklahoma in a 1 p.m. contest.
