NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Sunday afternoon, freshman defender Meagan Trifaux started her first game as an SFA Ladyjack. As luck would have it, she also finished it. Trifaux took a pass from teammate Lauren Fricks on a corner kick and slipped it past Centenary goalkeeper Ali Hilsher to defeat the Ladies, 3-2, in overtime at the SFA Intramural Complex. Trifaux's first career goal came in the game's 99th minute. The assist was Fricks' second of the game and followed her first goal of the year to put the game into overtime. With the win, SFA improved its record to 2-1-0.
The Ladyjacks trailed Centenary, 2-1, when Fricks gathered a defensive deflection in the Ladies' 12-yard box and flicked the ball off a waist-high bounce into the back of the net. The goal came with just three minutes left in regulation, setting the stage for Trifaux's scoring debut.
SFA had played the first eight minutes of overtime almost exclusively in Centenary's back third of the field with nothing to show for it. But Fricks delivered an excellent feed on the Ladyjacks' first corner kick of the day, and Trifaux tucked a low shot to Hilsher's left to bring the game to an end.
SFA took the early lead in the ninth minute, when senior Shahin Pabani found the back of the net. Fricks delivered a centering pass after chasing down a long pass wide to the right side of the field. Pabani connected with a solid shot on one touch to beat Hilsher and score her team-leading fourth goal of the season.
Centenary tied the game in the 33rd minute when Stefani Robbs bicycled home a pass from Tracy Apgar. The Ladies took the lead in the 78th minute when Bre Fletcher broke through the SFA defense and took advantage of a one-versus-one situation with Ladyjack goalkeeper Francesca Tierno.
Tierno finished with two saves and two goals allowed. She improved her record to 2-1-0 with the victory.
The Ladyjacks return to action next weekend, when they travel to Norman, Okla. for a pair of games. SFA takes on Oral Roberts on Friday, Sept. 8, and will meet Oklahoma on Sunday.
