LAFAYETTE, La. - Senior libero Stephanie Figgers once again added her name to Stephen F. Austin's top 10 list for digs in a match with 33 in a 3-2 loss to the Arkansas Lady'backs in the Arkansas Invitational Friday evening at Barnhill Arena in Fayetteville. Earlier in the day, the Ladyjacks fell to Sacramento State, 3-0. The losses send the Ladyjacks' record to 3-2 on the year.
As Figgers was on her way to the fifth-best mark in school history, the Ladyjacks battled Arkansas in a five-game set. After falling 30-24 in Game 1, SFA came back to win the next two, 30-26 and 30-27. However, a 30-20 Arkansas win forced a fifth game. SFA could never find its rhythm as the Lady'backs sealed the win, 15-8.
Figgers' 33 digs in the match gives her seven of the top 11 marks for digs in a match at SFA. She also had two service aces in the match.
Junior Traci Rohde led both teams with 18 kills on the night. She also put up four total blocks, including her first solo block of the season. Sophomore Shelly Swendig posted a career-high 14 kills and had two blocks in the outing. Sophomore Lauren Railey collected 15 kills and 18 digs for her second double-double of the season as junior setter JJ Jones dished out 55 assists.
In the first half of Friday's play, SFA fell to the Hornets 30-26 in Games 1 and 2 before Sacramento State ran away with the third game, 30-18. The Ladyjacks were held to a mere .089 hitting percentage, but only allowed the Hornets to a .183 hitting percentage.
Figgers managed to dish out 17 digs while Railey picked up 12. Rohde knocked down 14 kills to lead both teams and also put up four total blocks in the match.
The Ladyjacks will face Southeast Missouri Saturday at 2 p.m. from Barnhill Arena.
