NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Stephen F. Austin head coach Danny Kaspar announced Thursday the addition of two student-athletes to the Lumberjack basketball team. Collegiate transfers Trevor Guy and Kyle Jacobs have both signed to play basketball and continue their educations at SFA.
Guy is a 6-6, 220-pound forward from Grayson County Community College, in Denison, Texas. As a sophomore there this season, he was named to the All-Region V First Team and was a first-team selection in the Northern Texas Junior College Athletics Conference. The Memphis, Texas native averaged 17 points and 6.1 rebounds per game. He also recorded 2.4 assists and one steal per contest, while shooting 52 percent from the floor and 37 percent from 3-point range. A team captain, Guy led his Grayson County club to an 18-13 record and was named the team's MVP at the end of the season.
"Trevor is a player who knows how to win," Kaspar said. "He's skilled in that he can both pass and shoot the basketball. He's a coach's son who knows how to play the game."
Jacobs is a 6-6, 205-pound forward from Lincoln College, in Lincoln, Ill. He led the Lynx to a 28-7 overall mark and a trip to the NJCAA Division II National Tournament. Lincoln finished the season ranked No. 3 in the country in the NJCAA Div. II poll. Jacobs, who hails from Neville, La., averaged 11 points and five rebounds in his sophomore season. He shot 44 percent from the field and hit 35 percent of his 3-point attempts. Jacobs was an all-conference player this season.
"Kyle reminds me a lot of (former Lumberjack) Dedrick Sanders," Kaspar said. "He can play the small forward or the power forward spot. His versatility and athleticism should help us immediately."
Thursday's additions bring this year's signing class total to three. The Lumberjacks inked point guard Corwin Ragland, from Yavapai College, during the early signing period last fall. SFA is coming off a 17-12 campaign that saw the Lumberjacks finish fourth in the Southland Conference and qualify for the SLC semifinals for the third time in four years.
