NACOGDOCHES - After a rocky start due to three straight errors and three hits in the first inning, freshman pitcher Debra Boles retired 21 of the next 22 Lady Tiger batters to lead the Ladyjacks to a 5-4 win in the first half of Tuesday's non-conference doubleheader. SFA also won the second game, 9-0.
After giving up four runs early in the first game, freshman pitcher Debra Boles retired 21 of the next 22 Lady Tiger batters.
Being down 4-0, the Ladyjacks came within two in the bottom half of the same inning after Jessica Tullos drove home Carrie Woydziak from third on a single and Lee Lara scored on Nicole Carter's double down the left field line.
In the fourth, Crystal Garcia, who was pinch running for Tara Hersey, tacked on a run for the Ladyjacks after she scored from third base on a fielder's choice by Sydney Davis.
The Ladyjacks took the lead in the fifth inning when Crystal Dahlquist, who reached on an error, and Lee Lara, who hit a single, advanced a base after Nicole Carter walked. Garcia was also walked to get the RBI and tie the score, 4-4. Hersey then drove in the go-ahead run on a sacrifice fly to right field.
Lara finished the game 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Boles pitched her second complete game of the season and took her second win to give her a 2-1 record.
In game two, SFA took a five-inning 9-0 win from Texas Southern.
In a five run first inning, Tullos hit a two-run home run to put SFA on the board early after Lara tripled.
The Ladyjacks put another run on their tally in the second inning and capped it off with three runs in the third on a two-run home run by Hersey and a sac fly by Woydziak.
Woydziak, Garcia, and Sydney Davis each had two hits apiece.
Nicole Carter pitched a one-hit complete game to garner her third win of the season.
The wins boosted SFA's record to 15-22 on the season.
The Ladyjacks will return to the diamond on Friday as they face Louisiana-Monroe in Monroe in a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
