FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Stephen F. Austin senior Crystal Chang finished 12th in the pentathlon at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships, Saturday at the University of Arkansas. Chang scored 3,958 points, narrowly missing a chance to break her own school record in the event for the fourth time this season.
Chang posted three Top 10 finishes against the field in the individual events. She took fifth in the shot put with a distance of 39-07.75. Her time of 2:18.58 in the 800-meter run was good enough for seventh, and she took ninth in the high jump with a height of 5-07. Chang recorded a distance of 17-10.75 in the long jump to finish 15th in that event, and she was 16th in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.01.
Chang will take the first step toward trying to qualify for the NCAA Outdoor Championships, when she joins the rest of the SFA track and field team at the LSU Tiger Relays in Baton Rouge, La. on March 24 and 25.
