NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Stephen F. Austin's Crystal Chang will begin competition in the women's pentathlon Saturday at the NCAA Indoor Championships, hosted by the University of Arkansas. The two-day national championship meet began Friday morning. The pentathlon competition will kick off at 11:30 a.m. with the women's 60-meter hurdles.
Chang broke her own school record for the third time this season when she scored 3,963 points to win first place in the pentathlon at last week's Idaho State Intermountain Championships. The score was good enough to provisionally qualify for the national championships, and is the 14th best mark in the nation, going into the meet.
Chang has won the pentathlon at two meets this season and finished second at the Southland Conference Championships. She set a new school record each time out.
In addition to Chang's competition at the NCAA Championships, the SFA track and field teams were set to open the outdoor season Friday at the Sam Houston State York Relays in Huntsville, Texas.
