Lazenby Wins Long Jump

HOUSTON - Junior Reggie Lazenby recorded a first-place finish in the long jump and finished sixth in the 60-meter hurdles to lead the Stephen F. Austin track and field teams Saturday at the Houston Indoor Invitational in the University of Houston's Yeoman Field House. Lazenby's performance led a Lumberjack squad that recorded 11 scoring finishes and two Top 3 finishes.
Lazenby jumped 23-04.50 to win his first gold of the season in the long jump. He finished the 60-meter hurdles in 8.18 to take sixth place. Senior Kenneth McKinley turned in a third-place showing for the Lumberjacks in the shot put with his throw of 56-08.50.
Sophomore Darwin Johnson took fourth in the weight throw with a toss of 58-06.75. Two Lumberjacks placed in the 200-meter dash. Sophomores Johnny Thacker (22.07) and Stephon Rhea (22.10) took sixth and seventh place, respectively. Sophomore Erik Powell placed sixth in the 400-meter dash with a season-best time of 49.73, and senior Chance Edwards took sixth in the mile with his time of 4:17.57. Junior Ryder Peacock cleared 6-06.00 to take sixth place in the high jump in his first competition of the season. Sophomore Geoffrey Carey took eighth in the pole vault by clearing 15-07.00. That height bettered Carey's previous season best by six inches.
A trio of fourth-place finishes highlighted the women's action. Junior Ashley Monteau took fourth in the 3,000-meter run with her time of 9:52.30. Sophomore Audrey Azu was fourth in the high jump after clearing 5-06.00, and sophomore Kristina Windham took the fourth spot in the pole vault with a height of 11-11.75.
Sophomore Meghan Denman chased Azu with a fifth-place finish in the high jump (5-06.00). Senior Stevina Wyatt was sixth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 57.23, and junior LaQuisha Houston turned in a seventh-place finish in the shot put with her distance of 41-05.75.
The Houston Indoor marked SFA's last tune-up before the Southland Conference Indoor Championships, set for Feb. 17 and 18 in Houston.
