NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin track and field teams will return to action this weekend at the Hyatt Indoor Classic in Houston. The meet is scheduled for Friday and Saturday at the University of Houston's Bill Yeoman Fieldhouse.
SFA is coming off a solid showing at last week's LSU Bayou Bengal Invitational. The Lumberjacks and Ladyjacks combined to post 33 scoring performances, including 11 Top 3 finishes. Highlights included sophomore Johnny Thacker's first-place finish in the 200-meter dash and freshman Ashley Dickeson winning the pole vault.
The Lumberjacks have posted 19 performances that rank in the Top 10 among Southland Conference athletes. Junior Reggie Lazenby recorded a pair of Top 3 conference marks at the LSU meet. His second-place long jump of 24-01.00 is the best in the SLC, and his time of 8.09 in the 60-meter hurdles ranks third in the league. Senior Kenneth McKinley and junior Darwin Johnson still hold the top spots in the shot put and weight throw, respectively. Senior Bo Simpson moved into first place among league heptathletes with his score of 4,848 points at LSU.
The Ladyjacks are currently holding down 20 Top 10 performances. Dickeson's winning vault of 12-00 moved her into second place in the conference. Sophomore Alecia Green moved into third place among SLC long jumpers with her mark of 19-03.50 at the Bayou Bengal Invite. Sophomore Meghan Denman stands tied for fourth in the high jump, thanks to her LSU height of 5-04.50. Junior LaQuisha Houston recorded a mark of 42-01.25 in the shot put. That distance is good enough for fourth place in the league.
SFA's next scheduled competition is the Southland Conference Indoor Championships, set for Feb. 17 and 18 in Houston.
