Lumberjacks Fall to Louisiana-Lafayette

LAFAYETTE, La. - The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack basketball team's three-game win streak came to an end Saturday afternoon against Louisiana-Lafayette. SFA dropped a 66-63 decision to the Ragin' Cajuns at the Cajun Dome. The loss dropped SFA to 13-10 overall.
Sophomore Gerald Fonzie recorded a career effort playing the point guard role for senior Marcus Clark who missed the game due to injury. Fonzie recorded a career-high 19 points and seven rebounds, and junior Antuane Miller added 15 points as the `Jacks shot 21-of-48 (42 percent) for the game.
Louisiana-Lafayette posted one its better offensive outings of the season to hold off the Lumberjacks. The Ragin' Cajuns entered the game shooting only 27 percent from beyond the three-point arc, but hit 35 percent of the three-point attempts Saturday, led by Maurice Barksdale's 3-of-4 (.750) performance. Barksdale finished the game with only nine points.
The `Jacks knocked down 7-of-16 (.438) three-point attempts in the game, led by freshman Josh Alexander. The 6-4, Shreveport native finished the game with 14 points, and hit 4-of-7 (.571) from beyond the arc.
The `Jacks return to action Thursday when they travel to San Antonio, to face UTSA. The game against the Roadrunners is slated to begin at 7 p.m. from the Convocation Center. -SFA-
