
Ladyjacks Win SLC Indoor Title

The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack indoor track and field team recorded three All-Southland Conference honors Saturday to outlast Sam Houston State, 105.33-104, for the 2006 SLC Indoor Championship at Yeoman Fieldhouse in Houston, Texas. The Ladyjacks have now won back-to-back indoor titles. The Lumberjacks recorded one individual title and three all-conference honors Saturday but finished third overall behind eventual champion Texas-San Antonio, 111-103.
Senior Kenneth McKinley started the day by scoring 10 points and winning the individual shot put title. McKinley recorded a throw of 57-9.75. Reggie Lazenby and Marc Farris added all-conference finishes for the `Jacks in the 60-meter hurdles and 3,000 meters, respectively. Lazenby finished third in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.12. Farris also recorded a third-place finish in the 3,000 meters crossing the line with a time of 8:38.13.
The Ladyjacks recorded a couple of conference runner-up finishes from junior Ashley Monteau and sophomore Alecia Green. Monteau recorded her All-SLC honor in the women's 3,000 meters. Monteau finished the race with a time of 9:51.10. Green finished second in the 60-meter dash with her time of 7.62. Green returned to the track in the 200 meters and just missed all-conference honors finishing fourth overall with a time of 25.01. Junior Leah Matthews earned all-conference honors in the 60-meter hurdles. She finished third overall with a time of 8.49.
The Ladyjacks also had a strong showing in the pole vault placing three athletes in the top five. Sophomores Kristina Windham and Laura Mikeska and freshman Ashley Dickenson each cleared a height of 11-7.75 to finish tied for fourth overall. Senior Stevina Wyatt and sophomore Katrina Roundtree recorded top five finishes in the women's 400 meters. Wyatt just missed All-SLC honors with her fourth place finish in the event, crossing the finish line with a time of 56.55. Roundtree finished fifth overall just over a second back of Wyatt (56.67).
Junior Cody Clark just missed all-conference honors in the 3,000 meters with fourth-place finish. Clark crossed the line with a time of 8:38.71. The `Jacks also had a strong showing in the heptathlon. Freshman Aaron Harlan finished fourth overall with a score of 5,011 points. Senior Bo Simpson finished fifth overall in the event with a 4,939 point total.
