
Ladyjacks Defeat Texas State

SAN MARCOS, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack volleyball team won its third consecutive Southland Conference regular-season title by defeating Texas State, 3-1 (30-23, 34-32, 21-30, 30-27), Saturday night in San Marcos. The victory propelled SFA to 25-3 (.893) overall record and a perfect 14-0 league play mark.
Sophomore Lauren Railey led the Ladyjacks with a team-high 17 kills. She also recorded 20 digs. Railey was one of three Ladyjacks to record at least 20 digs in the match. Classmate Shelly Swendig added 15 kills and junior Traci Rohde carded 13 in the victorious effort. Senior libero Stephanie Figgers notched a team-high 31 digs for the Ladyjacks.
SFA jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead with a seven-point victory in game one. The Bobcats played SFA tougher in the second game, but the Ladyjacks prevailed with a 34-32 win. Texas State picked up its lone victory in game three of the match, recording a nine-point decision, but the Ladyjacks closed out the match with a 30-27 victory in game four.
Junior Jami Hill recorded four kills and 25 digs, while classmate JJ Jones dished out a team-high 50 assists. The Ladyjacks finished the night with 25 total blocks.
The Ladyjacks return to action Wednesday when they travel to Natchitoches, La., to take on Northwestern State. The match against the Lady Demons is slated to begin at 7 p.m. from Prather Coliseum.
