NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Home, Sweet Home: Following their trip to Columbia, Missouri, over Thanksgiving weekend, the Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks return home, looking to remain unbeaten in the William R. Johnson Coliseum. SFA (2-3) hosts Texas College (1-3) Tuesday, with the start time set for 7 p.m.
Last Game: SFA fell victim to the combination of a smothering Missouri defense and a hot-shooting Tiger team Saturday, as the Lumberjacks were defeated, 85-56, on the road. SFA turned the ball over a season-high 27 times, while, at the other end of the floor, Missouri knocked down 64 percent of its shots from the floor -- also a season-high. The Lumberjacks were led by senior center Antuane Miller, who scored 21 points. Sophomore forward Josh Alexander hit 4-of-6 3-pointers -- all in the second half -- to finish with 12 points. The loss kept SFA winless on the road in 2006.
vs. Texas College: SFA holds a perfect 5-0 edge in its series against Texas College. The Lumberjacks took an 89-65 win over the Steers in the teams' first meeting, in 1980. The two have not met since 1999, when SFA notched a 94-62 win over Texas College. Tuesday's meeting will be the first of SFA head coach Danny Kaspar's tenure.
The Steers: Texas College, an NAIA school from nearby Tyler, brings a road-weary 1-3 record to Tuesday's showdown. Including four exhibition games, the Steers have played eight road contests this season and have yet to play at home. Texas College has a first-year head coach and five new starters this season.
The Coaches: Danny Kaspar is in his seventh season as the head basketball coach at SFA. Kaspar is 95-79 (.546) in his time with the Lumberjacks. He is 314-131 (.706) in 15 seasons as a collegiate head coach. Texas College is in its first season under Champ Watson. Watson is a first-year collegiate head coach. So far, he is 1-3 (.250) with the Steers.
Up Next: The Lumberjacks head to Baton Rouge, La., to meet 2005-06 NCAA Tournament participant Southern. The game against the Jaguars was originally scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 2, but was moved due to arena schedule conflicts. The game is set for Friday, Dec. 1, at 5 p.m.
