Lumberjacks Fourth at NCAA Regionals

WACO, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks' five fifth-year seniors wrapped up their careers in solid fashion Saturday at the NCAA South Central Regional Cross Country Championships. The quintet were the first five SFA runners to cross the finish line and all finished inside the Top 40, leading the Lumberjacks to a fourth-place finish. In the women's race, SFA placed three runners inside the Top 50, landing the Ladyjacks a ninth-place finish.
The men's team scored 131 points to finish 35 points behind third-place team Lamar. Seniors Marc Farris, Julian Acuna, Chance Edwards, Cody Clark and Rodney Joseph made up the Lumberjacks' scoring runners. Farris finished first, clocking in at 30:54.9 on the 10,000-meter course to take 18th place. Acuna finished 22nd with a time of 31:16.3, while Edwards took 26th with a time of 31:23.9. Clark came across in 33rd with a time of 31:47.4, and Joseph was 39th, finishing in 32:01.7.
Sophomore Cole Hollingsworth chased Joseph home in 40th place, two seconds later. SFA's seventh runner, sophomore Teddy Fanta was 53rd with a time of 32:23.1
On the women's side, senior Ashley Monteau led the team with a time of 21:16.8. She finished in 20th place, pacing a team effort that saw the Ladyjacks finish with 229 points, 49 off the mark of eighth-place TCU.
Senior LaKoa McKeever was 37th, finishing the 6,000-meter course in 22:12.8. Junior Kirsten Wieseman finished in 22:30.9 to take 48th, classmate Katrina Nicholas was 64th with a time of 23:00.8 and senior Kimbri Lettkeman finished 79th with a time of 23:25.4. Freshman Mandy Willis came across the line in 89th place with a time of 23:56.9.
