
SFA Volleyball Defeats SMU, 3-2

DALLAS - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks extended their win streak to nine games when they defeated the Southern Methodist Mustangs in a hard-fought five-game match Tuesday evening from Moody Coliseum. The win gives SFA a 14-3 overall record and SMU's fourth straight loss sends its record to 12-8 on the season.
The teams split the first two games with each squad taking a 30-24 win. The Ladyjacks and the Mustangs then split Games 3 and 4 with SFA taking a 33-31 victory before SMU took the 34-32 win in Game 4. After being down in the deciding game, SFA came back to win by four, 15-11.
In the match, junior Traci Rohde and sophomore Lauren Railey each posted more than 20 kills each. Rohde had 20 and Railey knocked down 23 for the second straight match. Railey's 17 digs earned her the seventh double-double of the season.
Junior JJ Jones posted 67 assists, matching her number from Saturday night's match. Junior Jami Hill nabbed her first double-double of the season knocking down 13 kills and posting 22 digs on the night. Sophomore Shelly Swendig had five blocks and 14 kills, giving SFA four players with double-digit kills.
SFA will close out its regular-season non-conference slate Wednesday evening when it faces the North Texas Mean Green at 7 p.m. from the Mean Green Volleyball Center in Denton. The Ladyjacks will then return home to get back into Southland Conference action against Sam Houston State Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m. from the William R. Johnson Coliseum.
