
Ladyjacks Host Nicholls State

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack soccer team returns to Southland Conference action Sunday when it hosts Nicholls State. Tuesday's contest against LSU-Shreveport was canceled due to inclement weather and poor field conditions. Sunday's game will get under way at 2 p.m. The Ladyjacks enter the contest 7-7-1 overall and 3-2-1 in SLC games. SFA is currently fifth in the league standings but tied for second in the points race.
Last Week: SFA hosted SLC-leading Southeastern Louisiana on Thursday and played to a 1-1 tie. Southeastern struck first with a goal in the first half. SFA countered with an Amanda Alders goal in the second period, but neither team could muster a second goal through the end of regulation and two overtime periods. The tie was the Ladyjacks' first since Jaime Frias took over as head coach prior to last season.
The Opponent: Nicholls State is 4-11-1 this season and 1-4-0 in SLC games. The Lady Colonels have lost four straight games and have been outscored by a combined total of 12-1 in their last two contests. The Lady Colonels are second in the Southland Conference in saves with 106 on the season. Alicia Gautreau leads Nicholls State with five goals this season.
SFA vs. the Lady Colonels: The Ladyjacks are 13-1-2 (.875) all-time against Nicholls State. SFA is unbeaten in the last 11 meetings with both ties in the series coming during that stretch. The Ladyjacks are 6-1-0 at home against the Lady Colonels.
The Coaches: SFA is coached by second-year head coach Jaime Frias. Frias is 21-11-1 as Ladyjack head coach.Nicholls State is coached by Cindy Piper.
Next Week: SFA wraps up its regular-season schedule with a home game against Texas State on Friday, Oct. 27. The contest is set for a 7 p.m. start.
