NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack soccer team will host Southland Conference-leading Southeastern Louisiana Thursday in the first of four straight home games to end the regular season. The game is set for a 7 p.m. start. SFA (7-7-0, 3-2-0) is looking to extend its two-game winning streak and move up in the league standings with a win against the Lions.
Last Week: SFA put itself back in the thick of the Southland Conference race with a pair of crucial road wins. The Ladyjacks knocked off McNeese State, 2-1, in overtime on Friday, and went on to defeat Northwestern State, 1-0, with a dominant defensive performance Sunday. SFA allowed the Demons just one shot the entire contest, and goalkeeper Francesca Tierno picked up the win without making a single save. Against McNeese, the Ladyjacks led early on a goal by sophomore transfer Rachel Schwind. The Cowgirls tied the score with a late goal, but senior Shahin Pabani scored the game-winner three minutes into the extra period. The wins moved SFA from sixth to fourth in the SLC standings.
The Opponent: Southeastern Louisiana enters Thursday's meeting as the only undefeated team in the Southland Conference. The Lions are 8-3-2 overall and 2-0-1 in SLC action. Southeastern is coming of a 0-0 tie at Texas State on Sunday. The Lions have yet to give up a goal in SLC play, and all eight of their victories have been shutouts. Southeastern has allowed just nine goals all season. The Lions are ranked first or second in the league in eight team statistical categories.
SFA vs. the Lions: The Ladyjacks are 11-7-4 all-time against Southeastern Louisiana. SFA won the first meeting between the two schools -- a 5-4 overtime decision in 1995. The teams have played to overtime four times in the series history. That ties the Lions with Texas State on the Ladyjacks' list of most overtime games against a conference opponent. SFA has won the last four meetings. The Ladyjacks are an undefeated 7-0-2 at home against Southeastern.
The Coaches: SFA is coached by second-year head coach Jaime Frias. Frias is 21-11-0 as Ladyjack head coach. Southeastern Louisiana is coached by Blake Hornbuckle.
Next Week: The Ladyjacks continue their season-ending home stand with a non-conference match-up against LSU-Shreveport. The game is set for a 7 p.m. start on Tuesday, Oct. 17, from the SFA Intramural Complex.
