
SFA Takes Two at Cyclone Classic

NACOGDOCHES - The Stephen F Austin Ladyjacks (3-1) traveled to Iowa State to participate in the Cyclone Classic at Hilton Coliseum on Friday. They opened up the tournament by beating the Drake Bulldogs, 3-1 (30-19, 30-25, 24-30, 30-22), and the South Dakota State Jackrabbits, 3-2 (30-14, 30-32, 20-30, 30-12, 15-11).
In the match, the Southland Conference Player of the Week, Laura Cramer led both teams with 25 kills. The Ladyjacks had a total of 70 kills to the Bulldogs 60.
Sophomore JJ Jones had 55 assists and 13 digs in the morning match and libero Stephanie Figgers led with 24 digs and Jami Hill chipped in 19.
Freshman Lauren Railey led the Ladyjacks with two blocks.
In the second match of the day, the Ladyjacks took on a 0-4 South Dakota State team. After SFA took game one, 30-14, the Jackrabbits battled back to take the next two games, 32-30 and 30-20. But it wasn't enough to keep the Ladyjacks down as they came back to win the final two games, 30-12 and 15-11.
Railey and Cramer each had 17 kills on the night. Cramer also had 11 digs and two blocks while Railey had eight digs and a block.
Figgers had 28 digs while Jones had 56 assists, with four kills, 11 digs and two blocks.
Seniors Jessica Watson and Lauren Stevens each recorded a career-high seven blocks in the match.
The Ladyjacks will return to the court tomorrow at noon to take on Montana before facing host Iowa State at 7 p.m.
