AMES, Iowa - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks left the Cyclone Classic with a 4-0 record as they defeated the Iowa State Cyclones and the Montana Grizzlies in the last day to take the tournament title at the Hilton Coliseum. SFA took the first match from the Grizzlies, 3-1 (24-30, 30-27, 30-20, 30-20) and proceeded to take the final match from the host Cyclones, 3-0 (30-27, 30-16, 30-19).
Junior Stephanie Figgers brought home the top honor of being named the tournament MVP while sophomores Traci Rohde and Jami Hill were named to the All-Tournament team.
"Stephanie did some great things over the weekend," said head coach Debbie Humphreys. "She is the catalyst that drives this team and she definitely took the responsibility."
Figgers had 32 digs on the night to give her a total of 84 for the weekend.
Rohde led the team in the second match with 16 kills, giving her a total of 27 together with eight blocks to close out Saturday. Hill totaled 53 digs in all four games with the weekend-high coming yesterday with 19 digs against Drake.
Junior Laura Cramer led the Ladyjacks with a combined 29 kills from both matches. She also had 18 digs and eight blocks for the day. Senior Jessica Watson had eight blocks against Montana.
"It was a great weekend," said Humphreys. "There was some solid competition in this tournament and its what we definitely needed to get ready for conference play."
The Ladyjacks will travel to Tulsa, Okla., next weekend to play at the Crowne Plaza Invitational. SFA will face Grambling State on Friday, Sept. 9 at 5 p.m.
