NACOGDOCHES - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks opened their 2005 Southland Conference play with a 3-1 win over the Southeastern Louisiana Lady Lions Friday night at the William R. Johnson Coliseum.
SFA took the first two games from Se. Louisiana, 30-15 and 30-19, but the Lady Lions did not give up as they returned to the court for a battle to take game three, 30-25. The Ladyjacks, however, came back and took a forced game four, 30-17.
Leading the Ladyjacks were freshman Lauren Railey and junior Laura Cramer, who each earned a double-double, for the second time in as many matches.
Cramer earned her fourth double-double of the season with her 15 kills with 13 digs. Railey's 14 kills and 16 digs were part of her third double-double this season.
Junior libero Stephanie Figgers led both squads with 25 digs. Sophomore Traci Rohde chipped in double-digit kills with 12 to lead the team with a .281 attack percentage.
The Ladyjacks out hit the Lady Lions, 60-36, and held them to a .089 attack percentage.
The win gives the Ladyjacks an overall 8-2 record and a 1-0 record in conference play.
SFA will return to the court on Saturday, Sept. 17 to face SLC opponent, Nicholls State. The match is slated for a 2 p.m. start at the William R. Johnson Coliseum. The Ladyjacks will still be accepting "Cards for Katrina", donations in the form of gift cards, to aid the victims of Hurricane Katrina.
