
Houston topples Ladyjacks

HOUSTON, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack soccer team ended its six-game season-opening road trip with a loss on Sunday. SFA was upended by a pair of second-half goals in a 3-1 loss to Houston.
The Cougars notched one goal in the first half to take an early lead. Houston then scored twice in the second frame to wipe out senior defender Kim Gray's first goal of the season.
Houston got on the board in the 42nd minute when Kristin Bay scored on a header. The Cougars added to their lead less than 10 minutes into the second half on a goal by Sarah Fisher.
SFA answered in the 78th minute when Gray knocked home a rebound following a Ladyjack corner kick.
Houston capped the scoring a minute later when Bay found the back of the net again.
The teams were dead even in shots taken, with each squad firing 15 attempts. SFA senior goalkeeper Natascia Michalezki recorded six saves, and Houston's Lynn Baker finished with nine.
The loss evened the Ladyjacks' record at 3-3-0. SFA will play its home opener Friday when the Ladyjacks host Louisiana Tech in the Ladyjack Soccer Classic. The match is scheduled to get under way at 7 p.m. at the SFA Intramural Complex. The Citadel and Texas State will also participate in the tournament.
